Harajuku Girls.

What do you get when you cross a sexy French maid with a cutsie Bo-peep? The girls of Harajuku. Though they may stick out in a crowd, they hardly seem to represent a rebellious counterculture. Instead, these young girls gladly pose for photographers - many of them foreign - and in the process, they do what is not easy to do in a metropolitan area of 34 million: attract a lot of attention.

"Hey gringo, get outta my shot!"


Most of these girls carry suitcases, which ostensibly hold their normal day clothes for the return trip to the suburbs where they will studiously finish their homework.

The bridge over the Yamanote train line becomes the stage for Harajuku girls. Here they gain notoriety and even have their pictures posted on random blogs around the world.
